Playing with St Mary's

25th Mar 2019

On Thursday 23rd March 2019, the P3 classes from both schools met together for a play session in Cumber Claudy PS. At 1.30pm, 27 St Mary’s children, along with their teacher Mrs Melissa Doherty and a classroom assistant, Lisa, joined 22 Cumber Claudy children.

St Mary’s were welcomed at the door by Jack and Ella D, who showed them to our classroom. We had a short introduction and set the children a challenge of finding a new friend and finding out what they liked. We spent 30 minutes outside with some PE equipment and the children soon found others with similar interests. Some played together on the climbing frame, others played football, some had races and others just talked or looked for mini-beasts.

At 2pm we all went inside and got into mixed groups (with adult help) to play and talk together. Children had opportunities to construct, play with the small world table or create some art. We then got together and discussed our task. The children enthusiastically told us about their new friends and what they liked. Most managed to find someone with similar interests. I then read a book ‘Pumpkin Soup’, we thanked the children for joining us and they thanked us for having them and they left at 2.35 pm.
